It's Monday! What are you reading? (#2)

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week...and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well...you never know where that next "must read" book will come from!

I recently finished The Mind Readers, Through the Woods, and Anyas Ghost!

Cameron Winters is a freak. Fortunately, no one but her family knows the truth …that Cameron can read minds. For years Cameron has hidden behind a facade of normalcy, warned that there are those who would do her harm. When gorgeous and mysterious Lewis Douglas arrives he destroys everything Cameron has ever believed and tempts her with possibilities of freedom. Determined to embrace her hidden talents, Cameron heads to a secret haven with Lewis; a place where she meets others like her, Mind Readers.

But as Cameron soon finds out some things are too good to be true. When the Mind Readers realize the extent of Cameron’s abilities, they want to use her powers for their own needs. Cameron suddenly finds herself involved in a war in which her idea of what is right and wrong is greatly tested. In the end she’ll be forced to make a choice that will not only threaten her relationship with Lewis, but her very life.

It came from the woods. Most strange things do.'

Five mysterious, spine-tingling stories follow journeys into (and out of?) the eerie abyss.

These chilling tales spring from the macabre imagination of acclaimed and award-winning comic creator Emily Carroll.

Come take a walk in the woods and see what awaits you there...

Anya could really use a friend. But her new BFF isn't kidding about the "Forever" part.
Of all the things Anya expected to find at the bottom of an old well, a new friend was not one of them. Especially not a new friend who’s been dead for a century.
Falling down a well is bad enough, but Anya's normal life might actually be worse. She's embarrassed by her family, self-conscious about her body, and she's pretty much given up on fitting in at school. A new friend—even a ghost—is just what she needs.
Or so she thinks. Spooky, sardonic, and secretly sincere, Anya's Ghost is a wonderfully entertaining debut from author/artist Vera Brosgol.

Marked by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast (Review #15)

Title: Marked
Author(s): P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast
Pages: 306
Published: May 1st, 2007
Received: Bought
Format: Paperback
Stars: 4.5

Summary:
After a Vampire Tracker Marks her with a crescent moon on her forehead, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny – with a little help from her new vampyre friends (or Nerd Herd, as Aphrodite calls them)

Review:

I heard mixed things about this book. When I started reading this book, I instantly loved it. My friend, Madison, over at www.reviewsbymadi.blogspot.com, recommended this book to me! Im glad I read it because I loved it!

It starts out as her getting "marked." This is when another vampyre puts a mark on your forehead in the shape of a crescent moon. They are then put in a house called House of Night where they learn all they can about being a vampyre. There, they either die from not completing the change, or live and become a full-grown vampyre.

I loved the originality of this book! The only thing about this book I didn't like is that you can tell the daughters writing and mothers writing apart. Im not really sure how to describe it but if you read this book, or are planning to read it, you can see what Im talking about.

Honestly, if you want to try to read this book, go for it! If you like it, keep on reading! If you don't like it, you can always just DNF it. I really liked it but theres no way of telling if you will like it or not.

Quotes:

“You are old beyond your years Zoeybird. Believe in yourself and you will find a way. But remember darkness does not always equate to evil just like light does not always bring good.”

Thanks for reading!

Waiting on Wednesday! (#2)

So a book I've been waiting for is Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. For those of you that don't know, Glass Sword is the second book in the Red Queen Trilogy! The first book, Red Queen, came out earlier this year! And now the second book, Glass Sword is coming out VERY soon! (February 9th, 2016) Well, not that soon for me because Im very impatient and do not like waiting! I cannot wait for this book to come out especially because of how much I LOVED the first book!

*SPOILER WARNING!* IF YOU HAVNT READ THE FIRST BOOK, I WOULDNT READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED! JUST A WARNING!

The thrilling second book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Red Queen trilogy follows Mare Barrow on her mission to defeat the traitorous Maven.

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they’ve always known—and pits Mare against the darkness of her own heart.

A Work In Progress by Connor Franta (Review #14)

"Who are you? Answer: you are who you are in this given moment. Label-less. Limitless. Remember that from this day forward."

Summary:
In this intimate memoir of life beyond the camera, Connor Franta shares the lessons he has learned on his journey from small-town boy to Internet sensation so far.

Exploring his past with insight and humor, his present with humility, and his future with hope, Connor reveals his private struggles while providing heartfelt words of wisdom for young adults. His words will resonate with anyone coming of age in the digital era, but at the core is a timeless message for people of all ages: don't be afraid to be yourself and to go after what you truly want.

This full-color collection includes photography and childhood clippings provided by Connor and is a must-have for anyone inspired by his journey.

Review:

First off, I want to say that this is the first memoir I have ever read! And I loved it!  This book made me look at life in a different way, in a new perspective. The way he writes is truly inspirational.

What I especially loved about this story is how relatable it is. When a reader reads a new book, they want to be able to connect and relate to the main character and in this book, you can very much relate! He describes all the hardships he has faced in life but has learned to overcome them. Everyone has had those times when they felt this way and Connor's insight really helps if your going through tough times.

Im usually not a fan of non-fiction but Im so glad I picked this up and read it!

Quotes:

"Question: Why does life have to feel like such a struggle at times? Answer: Because without the struggle, the triumphs wouldn’t taste as sweet.”

“I would rather have 1 amazing best friend than 100 decent regular friends. It's not about quantity, it's about quality.”

The Martian by Andy Weir (Review #13)

Pages- 369
Published: Feburary 11,2014 by Crown
Synopsis:
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him & forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded & completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—& even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—& a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Review:
Im so happy I decided to randomly pick up this book! It beat my expectations  I wasn't expecting much from this book but I really loved it!!!

It starts when, Mark Watney, the main character gets stranded on Mars when a sand storm comes and he gets left behind.. He had to learn how to adapt to the environment and survive until NASA can save him. Its had to explain much without spoiling much.

Its fast-paced and compelling. You can really relate to the main character, Mark Watney. You follow him along on his journey on Mars. I thought it was really interesting and you can learn a lot from this book. It was funny but you can still learn new things at the same time.

This book definitely is not for everyone. It takes thinking while he explains what he was doing. (I don't know how to explain it! LOL!) This book is more for people that like Sci-Fi books rather than Contemporary/Fantasy/Dystopian. But if you like Sci-Fi books, then your in for a real treat!

Quotes:

"He’s stuck out there. He thinks he’s totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man’s psychology?” He turned back to Venkat. “I wonder what he’s thinking right now.”

LOG ENTRY: SOL 61 How come Aquaman can control whales? They’re mammals! Makes no sense.”

“Maybe I’ll post a consumer review. “Brought product to surface of Mars. It stopped working. 0/10.”

“I guess you could call it a "failure", but I prefer the term "learning experience."

My TBR List for the Month of August 2015!

So, in the month of August, I hope to read more than I did last month. Last month I only read 4 books! I'm hoping to read at least 8 books this month! The books I want to read are:

Marked by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast (Book 1 in the House of Night Series)

Synopsis:

Betrayed by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast (Book 2 in the House of Night Series)

Synopsis:

Zoey, High Priestess in training, has managed to settle in at the House of Night and come to terms with the vast powers the Vampyre Goddess Nyx has given her. Just as she finally feels she belongs, the unthinkable happens: human teenagers are being killed, and all evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis:

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

aSweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado - taking you with it - you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road - but even that's crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm - and I'm the other girl from Kansas.

I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.

I've been trained to fight.

And I have a mission.

July Wrap-Up!

In July, I read 4 books! I'm really sad that I only read 4 books! I hope I get to read more in August but I've been super busy and school starts really soon! Without further ado, I will tell you guys what books I read this month! I read, The Martian by Andy Weir. I really loved this book and I'm glad I picked it up! I also read, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I read this book for my summer reading project for school but I loved it! It definetly beat my expectations! This month, I also read, As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott. I didn't like this book at all. The writing was choppy and really confusing. I loved the concept but the story line was too confusing. It's probably just me though! Haha! The last book I read was, The Dare by Hannah Jayne. I loved this book also! I saw this book inside the cover of The Cellar by Natasha Preston and decided to buy it since it sounded good! I really liked it but I still think it could have been a little better. It was dragged out at points but I loved it none the less! What did you read this month? Comment below!
